Holistic & why i Love it
I’m here to tell you a little about what I do and why I do it.
Although times are a changing, people still often perceive the word Holistic as witchy, fluffy, airy fairy & saved for those who hug trees and howl under the full moon. Firstly, I say to that, go you for doing you and howling under the beautiful moon lit sky, secondly, I’m here to tell you that it’s simply not the case. Holistic is about the treatment of the whole person.
Why I chose Holistic?
I am a fully Qualified Holistic counsellor & that doesn’t make me better or less than, it simply makes me different. I chose Holistic because I believe in it, I believe progress can be made within a nurturing environment, I believe that owning your own shit is a lot easier when you feel supported as a whole, I like the way we can see things clearer if we step back enough to see a whole picture and I believe in the reconnection of intuition and listening to our bodies. I also love and embrace the many modalities used within Holistic counselling. I believe that as humans we are made up of many different parts and pieces and that they are all connected, that’s why I find treating someone as a whole person to be effective. I am also a huge fan of the tools and techniques that are provided within Holistic Counselling, I find them to be both soothing & empowering.
What I do?
I see a variety of young people that see me for a variety of reasons, it’s my job to help them navigate their way to and through their struggles, teaching them the tools they need to feel empowered to help themselves. They are amazing and I feel privileged to have their trust.
I add creativity to our sessions, by no means is this a glorified art class or the main focus of our sessions but I do use this technique to help provide comfort and remove the pressure often associated with therapy, not everyone wants to sit and openly talk about their feelings. I individually tailor my sessions to suit their unique interests, they vary from journaling, creating aromatherapy spray, to using screw drivers to pull apart old electronics, even Harry Styles makes it into the mix.
I choose to work with young people because to start with I like them, they make me smile, they are inspiring because they are so often put in situations beyond their choosing and continue to adapt to the best of their ability at the time. They are growing up in a time and world that is so fast paced, with so many mixed messages for them to sort through, including the distortion of realty that they are fed is mind blowing to anyone, they really are doing a great job and its only natural they need some help to navigate their world. I work with young people in hope that they too can see the incredible person they are, so they can learn to recognise their worth, to empower them with knowing they are not alone in their struggles and that they are so much more than troubles, I am supporting them to recognise their enoughness in a world full of marketing that keeps telling them they are never ever enough.
I hope this provides a little info around Holistic Counselling and the sessions I facilitate as I know it can be really confusing choosing what therapy is best suited for you or a loved one. Always keep in mind that it can sometimes take a few tries to find the right fit but it doesn’t mean that therapy doesn’t work for you, it just means you need to keep looking for the right fit for you. There are so many different therapies out there, from a psychologist, to a shaman and everything in between, there is no right or wrong but there is most definitely a standard of ethics that you deserve within your treatment, so don’t settle for less xx
